PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A teen was found dead over the weekend after disappearing into the Wabash River.
According to Parke County Sheriff Jason Fraizer, they got the call that a juvenile was missing in the Wabash River around 7:23 p.m. on Sunday.
In a news release from Indiana DNR, officials said a group of juveniles had been wading and swimming in the Wabash River north of Montezuma when a 15-year-old male went under and never resurfaced.
“Officers utilizing divers and sonar searched the area and recovered the victim at 12:30 a.m. this morning (Monday) in 7 feet of water,” the release reads.
An autopsy reportedly found the child’s death to be consistent with drowning.
Assisting in the search were the Clinton Fire Department Water Rescue Team, Parke County Sheriff’s Department, Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department, and Parke County EMS.
