TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A 22-year-old inmate at the Federal Correction Institution (FCI) Terre Haute has died over the weekend, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
On Saturday, May 31, Javen Pedro was found unresponsive inside the facility. The Department of Justice said responding employees initiated lifesaving measures and requested emergency medical services. Pedro was then pronounced dead by hospital personnel.
Pedro had been in custody at the FCI Terre Haute since May 22. He was serving a 75-month sentence for distribution of controlled substances to a person under the age of 21, according to the Department of Justice.
No employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured, and at no time was there a threat to the public. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has also been notified.
