LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Recovery efforts continue in Greene County after a tornado touched down in Linton Friday night.
Mike Morin, Greene County resident, caught the tornado on video and watched it in real time.
“I stepped out of the building and it started getting really windy so I looked to the south, the southwest, and the tornado was right behind the building and continued on the ground way past the property line and just continued east,” Morin said.
Eric Carpenter, Linton Fire Chief, said the first call came in from the storm at approximately 7:12 P.M. on Friday.
He said they have been able to determine that the storm covered about a 15-16 mile stretch of the area.
“The damage was very widespread. We had damage here in the city of Linton, we had heavy damage within Stockton Township. We provide fire protection for both of those areas,” Carpenter said.
There has been one confirmed fatality from Friday night’s storm.
Meanwhile, WTWO’s Jen Thompson was also able to speak with Greene County Commissioner Nate Abrams, who stated, ” I implemented a disaster declaration [Friday night] at 9:10 p.m.”
