TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — World champion competitive eater Joey Chestnut will be at an Indiana Rural King location later this month to try and beat his own popcorn-eating world record.
Chestnut, an Indiana resident and holder of over 55 eating world records, is scheduled to appear on Monday, May 26, at the South Terre Haute Rural King location. His goal? To break his own record for popcorn consumption.
Almost three years ago, Chestnut appeared at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis and ate 29 servings of 24 ounces of popcorn in under 8 minutes. The Guinness Book of World Records later verified the feat as the fastest anyone has consumed that much popcorn.
Now, the California native and 15-time winner of the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest will attempt to break his record at Rural King.
“I love challenging myself and setting new records, and it’s great when I can do it in fun environments with lots of support,” said Chestnut. “Rural King is known for its popcorn, so breaking a record at their store just makes sense.”
Long known for giving out free popcorn to customers shopping in-store, Rural King says this event will take its signature snack to new heights.
“This event is about bringing fun to our communities,” said Phil Reiter, Rural King Vice President of Marketing and E-commerce. “Our free popcorn has always been a fan favorite, and partnering with Joey Chestnut, the best in the world, is the perfect way to celebrate that tradition.”
Chestnut, who has been eating competitively since the age of 21, is widely considered to be the greatest eater of all time. He once ate 83 hot dogs in ten minutes during a live Netflix event, a world record.
A resident of central Indiana, Chestnut lives near Indianapolis with his fiancée and three dogs.
