BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Wednesday is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, and the Clay County Humane Society does something special each week for the local senior living community.
Once per week, the humane society brings a dog from the shelter to hang out with residents. They call it “Pet Therapy.”
The dogs are brought in, to not only boost everyone’s mood, but a number of them have been adopted throughout the process.
Activities Director for Towne Park Senior Living, Desiree York, said residents are immediately filled with joy upon the arrival of the shelter dogs.
“It is just beautiful, seeing them so happy to be around the animals”, York said. “It brightens their day, their whole week, you can just see their eyes light up whenever they see one of us come in with a dog.”
York said seven out of eleven dogs they have brought to the living community have ended up being adopted.
