TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – UPDATE: More details have been given on the fire by Captain Arnold. According to Arnold, smoke and flames were coming from the building as units arrived on scene. No injuries were reported, and units with the fire department had to lay out nearly 3,000 of five-inch supply hoses supplied to multiple hydrants. Heavy damage was sustained to the building and equipment inside. Heavy machinery at Russ Fisher was used to help crews move debris.
The Terre Haute Fire Department is working a large fire at Russ Fisher Equipment and Parts on East Margaret Drive.
Please avoid the area of State Road 46 and East Margaret Drive. According to Terre Haute Fire Department Captain Nick Arnold, the department was dispatched to the area around 12:10 p.m. this afternoon. At 1:31 p.m., the Vigo County 911 sent out an alert to avoid the area for the next four hours.
Arnold said no one was inside the building when the fire began and stated that staff attempted to use extinguishers on the fire but were unable to stop the blaze. Our reporter on the scene said he observed at least four fire trucks at the business. Arnold said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“We had to lay almost over 3,000 feet of supply hose just because of access,” said Arnold. “The fire crews did a great job. They initially did an offensive attack. The incident commander deemed it unsafe at that time, so they came back and did a defensive attack from that point.”
WTWO has a reporter on scene and will post more information when available.
