TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— UPDATE: According to a Facebook post from Chief Deputy Steve Meng, the incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. at the intersection of East Crossing Boulevard and South Winthrop Court. Deputies were told that an SUV had collided with a pedestrian in a motorized wheelchair.
When Deputies made it to the scene the man was being treated by Honey Creek Fire Department before later being transported by Transcare Ambulance for more treatment. IU Health Lifeline Air Ambulance was then requested for the man and he was taken to an Indianapolis Hospital for further medical care.
The investigation is still ongoing but the SUV driver consented to a chemical test. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
A pedestrian was flown to Indianapolis after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon.
According to Honey Creek Fire Battalion Chief Jon Shackelford, the department was dispatched after receiving the call to find one person struck by a vehicle just south of Terre Haute on East Crossing Boulevard. The victim was then airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
