TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute Police Department has a man accused of attempted murder and criminal recklessness placed in custody, according to a Facebook post from the department.
On December 26, 2024, THPD said uniformed officers responded to reports of shots fired near Center St. and Seabury Ave.
“Upon arriving, officers located shell casings, an apartment that had been struck by gunfire, and multiple witnesses who reported that those involved fled prior to police arrival,” said THPD.
During the preliminary investigation, officers were informed that possible victims of the shooting were receiving treatment for gunshot wounds in a local hospital.
One of the victims had sustained a “grazing bullet wound” on his leg. Another victim had life-threatening injuries as a result of gunshot wounds and was transported to an Indianapolis-area hospital for treatment.
THPD Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators said, during their investigation, they learned that both victims had planned on meeting the alleged suspect, Jaquincee B. M. Burns, 19, of Terre Haute, to engage in a fight. THPD said the victims were then led down an alleyway near 7th St. and Hulman St. and then were allegedly ambushed and shot at by Burns.
THPD Detectives obtained a warrant for Burns on charges of attempted murder and criminal recklessness, and with help from the U.S. Marshal Task Force Officer, Burns was located in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, on January 8, 2025. He was then taken into custody and extradited to Vigo County, over this past weekend.
