FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Chief Meteorologist Jesse Walker took to Facebook Monday to give updates and warnings about the severe cold snap headed our way.
Walker started by showing just how much of the United States is under some type of weather advisory but most importantly the historic winter storm coming from the Gulf. Several coastal areas of Texas are under a winter storm warning and even New Orleans is looking forward to the most snow ever seen at one time. Walker stated that the winter storm is even projected to come up through Florida up into Georgia. This could heavily affect southern states that aren’t nearly as prepared for snow.
Walker went on to discuss the temperatures we faced at home Monday. The lows today were hovering around zero in nearby areas but the wind chill is what really made things rough with temps getting to -15 degrees. This means the area is under a cold weather advisory into the early morning Wednesday, showing the coldest part of this outbreak. Walker also warned that after the late show Monday we would be dipping into the -10 to -20 degree area and from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning we will sit at -12 to -15 degrees with the wind chill for 24 straight hours.
Walker then discussed the local weather coming in, saying that though it’ll be cold and we could see flurries, the cloud cover will keep the temps from falling too low, however, the front will reinforce the cold coming in tomorrow. Walker went on to say that by Friday we will finally start coming out of the deep freeze before hopefully staying that way by Saturday. Walker addressed how we are looking toward an end to the intense temperatures soon though but showed that the entire country is colder than average. According to many of the charts Walker showed we are trending towards heat by the end of the month.
Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun also addressed the cold weather with some tips for residents of Terre Haute.
