TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Union Health is partnering with Ronald McDonald House Charities to bring comfort to patients and families.
Monday, Union Hospital in Terre Haute unveiled the Happy Wheels Cart. Volunteers will take cart to the women’s and children’s service units in the hospital.
The cart will carry snacks and hospital items for patients and families. The items will be sponsored by the Union Health Service League and also provided by the owners of local McDonald’s restaurants, Nick and Jami Kaspryk.
“We are thrilled to bring the Happy Wheels Cart to Union Hospital, which will provide a little extra comfort and care to families during their time in the NICU and maternity ward,” Jami Kasprzyk, local McDonald’s owner, said. “This cart represents our ongoing commitment to our neighbors, easing the stress of families and making their hospital experience just a little bit brighter. We can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have.”
The Kasprky’s donated money from their ‘Round-up’ program from 10 of their McDonald locations in Terre Haute, Clinton and Rockville in Indiana, and Casey, Marshall and Paris in Illinois.
“It’s hard to have a child or a baby in our Nicu, or a child on our pediatric unit, and families are away from their home, away from their work, away from things that bring them comfort. They often are very tired, going without sleep. It’s a very stressful time when they have children here in the hospital and so this is just to bring them a little bit of joy, comfort, love and a smile,” said Kristen Moore, Women’s and Children’s Service Line Director.
The Happy Wheels Cart will officially go into service on Wednesday, January 22.
