TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — If you saw a group of sheriffs at the Co-Op Grill in Clinton this morning, there was no need to be alarmed.
It was the Vermillion County Sheriff Department’s first ever ‘Coffee with a Cop’.
The goal of the morning was to give the local community the opportunity to see law enforcement in a different light and get to know them in a typical setting.
Sheriff Holtkamp says, although this is the first time they’ve done this, they are planning to do more events like this around the county.
He said the goal will stay the same: be more accessible to residents and for them to always feel free and comfortable talking to law enforcement.
“The community realizes they can come up and talk to us anytime, visit with us”, Holtkamp said. “They don’t have to call the sheriff’s office, if they see us out, they can stop and talk to us. They can reach out to us personally and feel comfortable sitting down and talking to us like one of their friends or family members.”
The Sheriff’s Department says their plan for the next event like this will be in the northern part of Vermillion County as their goal is to reach as many community members as possible.
