TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With the incoming cold weather, many local residents are looking for shelter.
That’s why places like Pathways, in Terre Haute, are using their facilities as warming centers.
Pathways is a social service agency, specifically assisting residents that are without adequate shelter.
The director of the organization, Charity Mouck, says they provide everything one might need to get back on their feet.
“It’s just a safe place for them to go to receive daily services like showers, laundry, mail, and meet with a case manager”, Mouck said.
The organization has done this in the past.
“We’re getting ready to mobilize our third warming center for this month, already”, Mouck said. “This is an opportunity for those who live on the streets or in uninhabitable places to come here, to this center, to get warm or have overnight shelter when it feels like 0 or below.”
One guest, Keaizza Mitchell, says she is very thankful the city has these.
“It’s important to help out people”, Mitchell said. “I feel like a lot of people need this type of stuff. I feel like it’s important for a lot of people.”
Mitchell says, without the centers, she would have nowhere else to go.
“No, probably be out here freezing to death”, Mitchell said.
The doors will open at Pathways at noon on Sunday, as the cold weather begins to come through.
