VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Knox County Health Department has decided to launch a new Blood Pressure Control Program in honor of February’s American Heart Health Month.
The program will be free and will be used in hopes of helping Knox County residents manage one of the biggest risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Almost 50% of Americans deal with high blood pressure problems and according to the press release only about one in five people have it under control.
The first session is set up to provide information and education to residents on high blood pressure, like ways to prevent it and how to control issues with it through healthy lifestyle changes. Participants will also receive an at-home digital blood pressure monitor for free to keep track of progress. The following sessions include personalized help, a review of blood pressure readings, and additional educational materials to help residents stay on track with their goals.
“By providing education and free tools, we hope to empower individuals to take control of their health and prevent complications related to high blood pressure,” said Susan Yochum, Community Health Nurse at the Knox County Health Department.
Those who wish to participate in the program can do so by calling 812-882-8700.
