TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two individuals are in custody after a traffic stop led to officials finding fentanyl in the vehicle.
According to a press release from the Parke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at the Marathon Gas Station on East U.S. Highway 36. Officials say the traffic stop was conducted because the operator of the vehicle had an operator’s license status of “suspended-prior.”
During the traffic stop deputies also located a container of fentanyl and a hypodermic syringe.
According to the press release, the driver, identified as Sabrina Stevens, 36-year-old of Mecca, attempted to get rid of the evidence and was then taken into custody.
Also, a male passenger inside the vehicle identified by officials as Kyle Abney, 30-year-old of Terre Haute, was also placed in custody after deputies found he had an active warrant of out of Vigo County for battery by means of deadly weapon and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
Abney was transported to the Parke County Jail and charged with possession of cocaine or narcotic drug and unlawful possession of a syringe. Both level six felonies.
Stevens was transported to the Parke County Jail and charged with obstruction of justice, level six felony, and operating a vehicle while suspended-prior, a misdemeanor.
