TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Next Wednesday, Mullen Flats, a 42-unit 1 bedroom apartment complex, will officially open its doors.
This 14.5-million-dollar project was created to try and help with the homelessness problem in the region. Those who qualify will be able to live in one of these apartments for 30 percent of what their monthly income is.
Mental Health America of West Central Indiana’s CEO Myra Wilkey said that affordable housing is one of the biggest needs in this area.
“Rents have outpaced wages in this area which has made it tough for families and people,” said Wilkey. “These types of projects that provide the affordability are really important because it keeps people housed.”
There will also be a Lotus Center attached to this complex that an additional 52 people can live in for a 90-day period that will be open at a later date.
