FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Indiana Republican Party will hold a caucus later this month for the Indiana House of Representatives District 42 seat.
When Governor-Elect Mike Braun announced the appointment of Alan Morrison as Director of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, that meant Morrison’s seat in the Indiana House of Representatives would be open.
Morrison, of Brazil, has held the District 42 seat for 13 years.
The Indiana Republican Party will be holding a caucus on Tuesday, January 14th at 6:30 PM. It will be held at the Parke County 4-H Fairgrounds, 1472 N US-41, Rockville, IN 47872
According to Griffin Reid, Communications Director for the Indiana Republican Party, the “only precinct committeemen, candidates, staff, credentialled guests, and credentialled media will be permitted in the caucus room.”
There will be 60 eligible precinct committee persons voting in the caucus.
Individuals interested in running in the caucus should contact the Secretary of the Indiana Republican Party to ensure they file the proper forms prior to the deadline on Friday, January 10th at 5 p.m. EST.
According to Reid, as of Wednesday, there have been five that have filed. They are Darrek Davis, Parke County, Brian Huxford, Vigo County, John Michael Major, Vermillion County, Johnny Norton, Vigo County and Tim Yocum, Vermillion County.
Once the replacement is named, Reid noted that the House of Representatives will coordinate a swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected legislator as soon as possible.
District 42 covers, parts of Vigo, Warren, Vermillion, Clay, Parke, and Fountain counties in Indiana.
