VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Crews continue to battle the aftermath of the snow from Sunday and Monday.
According to Vigo County Engineer Larry Robbins, his crews are currently focusing on main and secondary roads, intersections, turns, hills, and bridges. He also said that all 26 plows have been out around the clock and will continue to do so until everything is eventually cleared.
“We try to make sure that all of the primary and secondary roads are cleared off before we go on that shift,” said Robbins. “We will then drop back and get some of those subdivision roads and other minor roads that don’t see as much traffic.”
Vigo County Commissioner Mark Clinkenbeard said since this is the first big snow of the year there are plenty of resources available.
“We have plenty of salt, sand, and things of that nature,” said Clinkenbeard. “Luckily, we have also not had a lot of mechanical issues over the last day. Plowing is hard on the equipment, and they had one here at the shop they were working on but everything else is out and working right now.”
Clinkenbeard credits great communication between all those involved with helping to make things go smoother when the weather gets rough.
“The city, county, state, EMA, and even Duke Energy are all texting or calling to make sure that we are all on the same page so that things are going well,” said Clinkenbeard.
Clinkenbeard added that multiple county offices will be posting updates on the roads on social media as things progress throughout the week.
