VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local Democratic official speaks on the passing of former President Jimmy Carter.
Vigo County Democratic Central Committee Chair Joe Etling says that he remembers when Carter was president, but many people remember his contributions after leaving office. Etling cited a couple of remarkable feats, such as winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, and passing away as the oldest living president in the history of the United States. Etling says former President Carter was a man of great faith, principle, and a gentleman who cared about others.
“Those all things factored into the things and decisions he made,” Etling said. “It’s difficult to identify anybody comparable to that that’s existed in our lifetime, and it’s truly amazing and as I said, God bless him and God bless his family.”
Etling went on to describe former President Carter as a selfless public servant who was interested in the greater good.
