BROCTON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)— A Brocton man and his dog were found dead on Christmas Day after a welfare check from the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department.
According to a Facebook post by the Edgar County Coroner’s Office, The Edgar County Sheriff’s Department was contacted around 6:02 p.m. on Christmas Day for a welfare check. The caller said they hadn’t heard from their brother all day and were concerned.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the home located on East 3rd Street in Brocton and determined it was necessary to bring the coroner. The Coroner’s Office stated that 68-year-old Brian K. Gibbons of Brocton was pronounced dead at the scene. Gibbons’ German Shepard was also found dead inside the home. The post stated that the Brocton Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and found fatal levels of Carbon Monoxide in the home.
