LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local Elks Lodge did their part to serve warm Christmas dinners to the community.
Elks #866 in Linton served a drive-up style dinner line from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Exalted ruler David Schantz says 43 volunteers began working at 5:30 a.m. to prepare 500 meals. Despite saying they would open at 11 a.m. they had already given out over 100 meals prior to that official time.
“Everybody is very appreciative,” Schantz said. “We get a lot of thank you and a lot of donations to help pay back the expense we put out, but the overall feedback is great. The community seems to really appreciate it. What we’ve been finding more and more is that people are coming and getting more meals to deliver to people that can’t get out or senior people that can’t get out and get their own meal.”
