KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— UPDATE: The investigation continues into a house fire that happened Christmas Eve morning in Knox County.
Palmyra Township Fire Department Chief Nick Hostetler says firefighters were dispatched to the house located at 9544 E Summers Road in Palmyra Township around 10:21 a.m. Tuesday.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy fire on the rear of the house. Hostetler says the fire was marked as under control within 20 minutes of crews’ arrival, but units remained on the scene for several hours to extinguish smoldering areas.
Hostetler says the cause of the fire is currently undetermined and adds that the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted to investigate. He says the Red Cross was contacted to assist the home’s residents.
Numerous agencies assisted, including the Vincennes Township Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, Steen Township Fire Department, Good Samaritan EMS and Knox County Central Dispatch.

The fire broke out around 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning. WTWO sent a videographer to the scene and found that Vincennes Township Fire Department was on the scene. The home was located at 9544 East Summers Road in a rural area outside of Vincennes to the east. Our reporter was able to confirm that the structure of the house still stood despite the fire.
