SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A yearly tradition in Sullivan returns Saturday.
Christmas on the Sqaure will take place between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
In the past, the event has been the entire weekend, but this year it will just be one day.
Heart of Sullivan is still sponsoring the event, so admission will be free for all ages.
Businesses around the square will be giving out food, prizes, and playing holiday games to get the local community in the Christmas spirit.
Then, at 7:30 p.m., the city will put on a Christmas parade.
Last year, the city gave out blankets to all guests.
Mayor of Sullivan, J.D. Wilson, says they plan to do that again, as a way to bringing the community together.
“Last year I want to say the number was 600-700 blankets they gave out and they are going to give out blankets again”, Wilson said. “All the kids go home with a blanket; all the family members go home with a blanket. It’s just a special time. It is my favorite time of the year. We have a lot of events all year long here in the City of Sullivan, but this one warms the heart. It’s that holiday season and you see a lot of the community come out and just enjoy it.”
Mayor Wilson asks all residents to follow along on social media, in case of inclement weather that could cancel the parade.
