JASONVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Indiana National Guard was deployed in response to the fire at the Jasonville Water Plant.
Hoosier National Guard members delivered a truck with two tanks of potable water as well as a tent and heater. This was the result of the Indiana National Guard and Indiana Department of Homeland Security, working together to assess ways to help fellow Hoosiers in need.
“It goes without saying that this is an absolute blessing,” said Jasonville Mayor Eric Shipman. “The National Guard came in and were able to take that water to our nursing home, to get water to people who couldn’t get out. It really did help. It was an absolute game changer.”
Around 2,000 Hoosiers currently call Jasonville their home but the plant supplied water to nearby residential areas totaling more than 5,000 individuals impacted in surrounding communities. Indiana’s National Guard prepares for situations just like these so they are available to help in crisis situations, much like they did with assisting in North Carolina and Florida after the hurricane earlier this year.
“This response is important because it shows that the state of Indiana is always ready to assist Hoosiers in their time of need,” said Lt. Col. Amy Hoover. “‘Always ready always there,’ it’s the motto of the Indiana National Guard, and this is an instance in which using our equipment we’re able to work with other agencies and departments to come together to provide a solution to the people of Jasonville.”
