TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— After speaking with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) , WTWO was able to get updates on two area construction projects.
WTWO reached out to the Public Relations (PR) Director for INDOT to get updates on the construction, and after speaking with one of the Terre Haute area engineers, he has given us updates. The first is the bridge on State Road 59 outside Clay City which has been being worked on for 59 days as of today. The project was set to end in mid-December depending on weather and according to INDOT’s Public Relations Director Blake Dollier, the new expected end date is set for late December. The director went on to say that crews are planning on pouring approaches starting next week as long as the weather is ok. After that is finished they plan to test the structure to make sure the bridge is good to open.
State Road 246 was originally slated to open on November 1st. This construction deals with more bridges, this time west of U.S. Highway 41. Dollier said that after work began, which was originally planned for the year prior, it was discovered extra safety work and structure preservation beyond what was originally planned was required. According to Dollier, this is what has caused the over-month-long delay. Both bridges are currently closed and are expected to open by early June 2025.
