TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Team of Mercy in Terre Haute is a mental health organization, assisting individuals in need.
Now, they are launching their new wellness program that involves physcial health.
The executive director of the organization, Christina Crist, says this comes from studying the correlation between physical and mental health.
“We’ve identified that one of the key components to good mental health is your physcial health and your nutrition. We have a board member that has a great passion in this area and is bringing this to the table for us.”
That board member is Molly Pabst.
“Lots of studies out there showing that physcial fitness plays a huge role in mental health. It decreases depression, anxiety, and just helps people find a community that can hold them accountable and motivate them.”
The wellness program will assist those in need, not only with finding the right plan, but also financially.
“We are offering scholarships. Essentially helping people who are in need of physical fitness, nutrition, and are also struggling with mental health. We are trying to bridge that gap and give them the opportunity to find a fitness community that they can call their own.”
Team of Mercy says the goal of the program is to unite people.
“Loneliness is a killer. Being a part of a group, being a part of a fitness community can lower the risk of depression by 54%. We are really trying to get people in a group setting, so again, they can have that accountability. They can have that built in family that can keep them going.”
Team of Mercy says there will be an application process, but if you are approved, they can get you into any kind of group fitness and nutrition plan.
