TERRE HAUTE Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Principal Tim Herrin gave ISU President Dr. Mike Godard the honor of serving as ‘principal for the day’.
After being officially installed as Indiana State University’s 13th president earlier this month, Dr. Mike Godard’s job title changed to Terre Haute South principal for the day. Godard says he will continue to build a strong relationship with the Vigo County School Corporation.
“The more we work together to see what might be possible for our current students throughout all of our schools in the district, but also ways in which they can see what individualized pathway would be for them to be successful,” Godard said. “If that’s earning a degree from Indiana State in the future, we want to make sure they see that seamless pathway in which they can continue to contribute back to the community.”
Principal Tim Herrin is an ISU alum, and he says that President Godard’s efforts are already showing students the possibilities.
“What they’re finding out is, with President Godard and ISU reaching out into the community now, they’ve done a great job since he’s been on board, really getting involved in the school corporation, but also the community,” Herrin said. “I think that’s going to pay dividends and our kids are going to realize it is a great university, and the opportunities they can do to stay in the community.”
Godard’s duties for the day include interacting with students and learning about the building and resources at Terre Haute South.
“I always say we’re all about breaking down barriers at Indiana State University for students to have an opportunity to be successful, and I’ve already seen that today,” Godard said. “They’re about that as well here at South, and we just want to learn from that and see again, if there’s more synergies we want to build upon those.”
Godard says that he feels a great partnership between the Vigo County School Corporation and Indiana State, and hopes to grow it even stronger in the future.
