VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Dinkel’s 5th grade class at Fayette Elementary got the chance to perform their self-written plays for other students and their families.
These projects along with the classes’ field trip to the Community Theatre of Terre Haute were funded through the Indiana Educator Fellowship for Creative Teaching as Mrs. Dinkel was one of just 20 teachers in the state to receive this.
The plays were about numerous European explorers and their significance in history. One of Mrs. Dinkel’s students Layla Flowers said she enjoyed this much more than their usual classroom work.
“I like how we get to do this instead of just sitting at our desks writing paragraphs,” said Flowers. “Like Mrs. Dinkel said, it is nice to be able to get up. move around, and do stuff like that.”
Mrs. Dinkel said that next week she plans to start integrating some painting into her lesson plans.
