TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The race for the District 3 School Board seat in Vigo County has ended and Stacy Killion is the winner.
Stacy Killion and candidate Mark Lee were vying the seat.
Killion won with 20,246 votes or 59.46 percent to Lee’s 13,806 votes.
Leading up to the election Killion said she wants to continue building upon a competitive salary for teachers if re-elected.
“From bout 47 school corporations within 16 miles driving, we were ranked 46 in starting teacher pay,” Killion said. “With the changes we just made, we’re now ranked 11, which is great and we’re attracting more teachers to come. But we still have to address the retention portion of that group of teachers that haven’t seen a lot of salary increase, so that’s a commitment I want to see the board continue in our next bargaining session.”
On Tuesday night Killion said, “I’m looking forward to continuing to work on our teacher pay and how we can best show teachers that we appreciate them. I am excited that the community is believing in the work that we are doing with Dr. Himsel, and I am excited to get to continue doing that work.”
Killion said that it is always a pleasure to grow and learn through another election cycle.
“It was a great experience win or lose,” said Killion. “I will always say that it is great experience to campaign and be able to interact with people and realize that you had support that you didn’t know you had. It is just a good feeling to have that moving forward. I really enjoyed the campaign cycle, but I am also glad that it is over.”
