TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Tuesday is Election Day. Not only will we elect a new president, but several state and local offices are also up for grabs in the two-state area.
Early voting ended at noon Monday in Indiana.
Vigo County Clerk Brad Newman says Vigo County residents have turned out in a big way for this election. He said, as of Monday morning, 27,700 of Vigo County’s 71,327 registered voters had already voted. That’s more than 38 percent.
We went to the Vigo County Annex Monday and found people waiting in line to vote. Newman said the sheriff’s office was called to the annex Monday after voting ended because one man refused to leave. Newman says the man showed up after the cut-off time to vote and became disorderly.
Overall he says people have been patient and things have gone well.
“The turnout has been amazing. The patience this community has shown has been amazing. We’re asking for one more day of it,” said Vigo County Clerk Brad Newman.
On Election Day, polls are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Indiana and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Illinois.
