FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) plans on stocking 157 locations in Indiana with around 51,000 channel catfish to expand fishing opportunities.
The Indiana DNR announced Friday that they will be releasing the catfish during this fall. The catfish will also be released into only publically accessible waters. The catfish in question come from the Cikana Fish Hatchery in Morgan County, Driftwood Fish Hatchery in Jackson County, and East Fork Fish Hatchery in Daviess County and were raised by state biologists. The catfish range in size from eight to ten inches in length.
“Once stocked, they acclimate to their new environment quickly, they shouldn’t take long to start biting,” said fisheries biologist Dave Kittaka.
The DNR expects that all stocking locations should receive their new residents by early November but exact quantities are subject to change based on production. All anglers are required to follow bag and size restrictions which generally is 10 channel catfish per day with no more than one being more than two feet and four inches in length. Lakes with different bag limits are listed in the Fishing Guide on the DNR website. Locations where the fish are set to be released can be found here.
