FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As trick or treaters prepare to go out the next couple of days, Indiana State Police wanted to share some safety tips for those participating.
ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Matt Ames said if motorists are taking kids from house to house, they should turn on their hazard lights. He also wants to make sure that parents are checking the candy to make sure, it is completely sealed in its packaging.
Ames said that it is important that motorists pay close attention, while in crowded neighborhoods.
“If you are not actively participating, we ask that motorists to not drive while distracted, reduce your speed, and make sure you are buckled up the entire time,” said Ames. “Make sure you are looking for those ghosts and goblins as they are traveling in and out of the streets.”
Ames added that there will also be extra patrols out in busy areas to ensure a safe environment for the festivities.
