SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A gas main broke after being struck by a contractor during work Wednesday causing lane closures.
U.S. Highway 41 had one of its lanes closed for around 30 minutes Tuesday after a contractor hit a gas main while working. WTWO reached out to Greg Bailey, Vice President and Chief Engineer with Ohio Valley Gas, who said that the contractor was in a field installing a tile when the gas main was broken between Shelburn and Farmersburg.
Crews were sent to the scene and turned off the gas as they repaired the main over the next few hours. Bailey said that some customers had their gas restored Wednesday night and that they expect most individuals to have their gas back by the end of the day on Thursday.
