TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The City of Terre Haute broke ground Monday on a project that will overhaul Herz-Rose Park.
The park is located in the Ryves neighborhood. The project, which is supported by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, will re-design the park.
Features will include a new playground, a basketball court, and a splash pad.
Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun said the city has invested a lot in the Ryves neighborhood and this project will continue those efforts.
“Now we’re seeing quality of life investments, whether it’s the clinic around the corner, the community gardens and now a brand new park, we are investing in north Terre Haute and we’re happy to see the fruits of that labor finally pay off,” said Mayor Sakbun.
Art Spaces is working with artist Greg Mueller to bring an arch sculpture to the park, which will feature handprints by local school children.
Art Spaces Executive Director Ally Midgley said it will also have QR codes that link people to information about events and resources in the community.
“We’re just excited to see it coming to life and to be a part of this neighborhood and to kind of create something that the neighborhood can be proud of and take real pride and ownership in. I think this park is a great space for that. This is a really central point in the neighborhood and it’s a great space for fostering good community,” said Midgley.
