CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Clay County Board of Commissioners has decided like many other counties in Indiana to put a burn ban into effect.
The Commissioners say that due to the dry and windy conditions being experienced that a burn ban has been put into effect for the next seven days or until deemed safe. The ban could also be extended if conditions stay as they are.
The criteria for the ban is listed below.
- no campfires or recreational fires unless in a fire ring that is at least 23 inches in diameter and at least 10 inches high.
- no open burning of any kind using conventional fuel like wood or other combustible matter except charcoal or propane grill
- no burning of debris like timber or vegetation including from construction
- burning is allowed in burn barrels with at least 1/4 inch mesh top from dawn until dusk
- charcoal from grills can not be disposed of unless thoroughly extinguished.
- personal firework usage is discouraged
The number of counties with a burn ban has doubled since our earlier story on Parke County’s burn ban. The list now includes 20 counties and can be checked for updates here.
