TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A spectacular drone show, designed by Sky Elements, a recent finalist on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, lit up the sky as part of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s annual homecoming bonfire tradition.
This tradition takes place the night before the homecoming football game and consists of a massive structure that is lit on fire. This year after the structure is lit, hundreds of drones put on a vibrant light show, forming characters, shapes, and logos that hold special meaning for the Rose-Hulman community.
The team Sky Elements placed third in this year’s AGT competition.
Assistant Director of Residence Kyle Washburn said the tradition brings everyone together.
“There’s alumnus back from the 50’s, the 60’s, and even current students. And the one thing they all have in common is they built a bonfire, they guarded the bonfire, they stayed up late, they all have things to talk about in common. It’s nice to see a tradition like this preserved for so long,” he said.
Also in 2023, the team broke two Guinness World Records for their Christmas drone showcase, a retelling of The Nutcracker ballet.
