TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV) — The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has led to Terre Haute Air National Guard troops being deployed to North Carolina.
Commander of the 181st Force Support Squadron Major Landon Hinman said the troops are already on the way.
“We brought that team in at 9:30 on Monday morning and we had them out the door by 11:30 to go to our headquarters in Indianapolis to get a further read and then start their journey down to North Carolina,” said Hinman.
Hinman said events like these are why these 11 airmen are part of the force.
“That’s why we raise our right hand, why we wear the uniform, practice, and train the way we train,” said Hinman. “We work and train with the agencies that we work with here locally so that when that real world event hits we can respond to not only help Hoosiers, in this instance North Carolina, and those agencies down there so that we can hit the ground running, have a smooth transition, and be effective to get our mission set.”
Hinman added that his group along with all the others going from the Hoosier state are always willing to help.
“We aren’t the only entity responding out of Indiana,” said Hinman. “We see all of those entities like Task Force 1 and all the others down there that are transitioning from Florida to North Carolina helping those in need. It is nice to see the Hoosier state respond and help others in the nation.”
