TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Vigo County school officials held a press conference Friday morning about measures being taken for safety at the North vs South football game while so many threats have been issued at local schools.
The Vigo County School Corporation (VCSC) has confirmed that extra security measures will be in place to protect fans at Friday night’s game. VCSC has confirmed that the number of entrances to the game has been reduced from four to two and will be manned by officers. There will also be the addition of metal detectors and wands at the entrances.
VCSC is also asking fans not to bring backpacks or large bags similarly to big stadium games. They advise that if you do bring a bag it is not required to be clear but at least small enough to be reasonably searched. Parking and student drop-off points will remain the same.
Terre Haute Police Department and the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department will be assisting in keeping locals safe. VCSC said they want the event to be a fun and safe evening for everyone.
“We are reiterating that we are in this together. We enjoy this game as much as the students and fans and we want everyone to have a fun and safe evening!”
