TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Happy Tails Animal Rescue bought property on Erie Canal and Wheeler with plans of building a community dog park.
The dog park will consist of fencing, draining, turf grass, seating, and fun activities for the dogs. Local contractor Midwest Barndominiums will be building the dog park and donated a covered shelter.
To attend the park it will require proof of vaccinations, prevention, and your animal will have to be spayed and neutered. The dog park will be staffed by Happy Tails Animal Rescue founders or volunteers.
Founders Aaron Childress and Taylor Bullock hope to make this a hangout spot for the community and their fur babies.
“It’s just one more location that you can take your dog to and socialize. Or a safe space that they can come and play where if you don’t have a yard or just to get them out of your yard into a new space,” Childress said.
“Having events ourselves there like adoption events. Having our own meet and greets there. Having maybe like a Halloween contest there, things that the public can come get involved and also learn about our property as well,” Bullock said.
The rescue is needing to raise $10,000 to make this a reality. Founders say they plan to break ground by next month. If you would like to donate you can do so by visiting their Facebook page or website.
