SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With World Suicide Prevention Day coming up next Tuesday, Turning Leaf Mental Health Services wants to do something to remember loved ones lost to suicide.
On September 10 from 8-8:30 p.m., a candlelight memorial will be held at the Sullivan County Community Hospital Tree Grove. Special speaker Mike Frey will share his experiences with suicide and there will be a booth providing local resources available to help prevent suicide.
Frey said they want to let these families know that they are not alone.
“This brings together others who have lost someone to suicide,” said Frey. “Whether it be a son or daughter, husband or wife, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, nephew or niece, there are so many people that are affected by suicide now and we want to let them know that they are not alone.”
Turning Leaf officials said that they want to shift the stigma of silence to one of openness, understanding, and support.
