TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The city of Terre Haute will be forming a youth council made up of 20 students from the area’s high schools.
August 5, Mayor Sakbun’s office released information on the new Mayor’s Youth Council made up of 20 students from West, North, and South Vigo High Schools. The council will be working on a project to benefit the community and apply for a grant to bring their idea to life. In addition MYC members will participate in several boards and commissions throughout Vigo County. This is a way the mayor is hoping to give a voice to the youth in our local government. The MYC will meet regularly to develop their project and the involvement on various boards and commissions will help them learn the ins and outs of local government.
“The establishment of the Mayor’s Youth Council marks a significant step towards involving our young citizens in the civic process,” Stated Mayor Sakbun in a press release. “These students bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and improvement of our community. I am proud to take a back seat in this project and watch our students grow. The staff will be here to assist them in their endeavors.”
