TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— August 5 began the annual maintenance program by Indiana American Water.
August 5 through October 4 Indiana American Water is running its maintenance program that includes testing and flushing fire hydrants and a temporary change in the water treatment. Due to this, customers could experience a slight drop in water pressure or experience discolored water for a short period of time. The water quality team will also be switching to a new form of chlorine called “free chlorine”, a stronger disinfectant used in flushing water mains and fire hydrants. You may notice a stronger chlorine taste or smell from your water but it is no cause for concern according to the press release.
Indiana American Water recommends that if your water is discolored, to run cold water at the lowest level of the home for three to five minutes until clear. They also discourage doing any laundry if discoloration is noticed. For more information or to see a map of the affected are you can check out their website or call 1-800-492-8373.
