TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – More details emerged about plans for the historic Indiana Theater in Terre Haute.
Vigo County commissioner Chris Switzer said that a group called “Studio Axis” was consulted at a recent Vigo County Capital Improvement Board meeting for a feasibility study of the theater. They found out that the bones of the theater are good, but there are several issues with an estimated $26-30 million in renovations. Switzer says local leaders know how significant the building is to the community.
“The theater is a beloved, iconic in this community,” Switzer said. “I think the community has the appetite to move forward, it’s just trying to find that way to do that. We also talked about potentially a phased approach to opening the theater, but as we’ve seen in county projects over the last couple of years, doing things in phases becomes a lot more costly to the tax payer.”
Switzer says that they will discuss the next steps to move forward in the beginning of 2025.
