TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Monday, July 29 was the funeral services of the late Sheriff John Plasse. Sheriff Plasse served Vigo County in many ways that will be felt throughout the community. Family, friends, and citizens of Terre Haute mourned the death of Sheriff Plasse and we are sharing some moments of our coverage of the services
Julie Henricks spoke with Shelley Klingerman, founder of Project Never Broken. She lost her brother Terre Haute Police Detective Greg Ferency when he was killed in the line of duty. Klingerman spoke about how important the community can be in consoling the family.
Henricks also spoke with Deanna Griffin, Executive Director of the Phoenix House and Chaplain Assistant to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department. Griffin talked about how Sheriff Plasse impacted her life. “John was somebody who always supported and believed in me,” Griffin said.
Henricks spoke with Jodi Moan, Executive Director of the Happiness Bag, an organization that helps clients with special needs. “He was truly a very caring and giving man,” Moan said about the late Sheriff.
Jen Thompson spoke at the memorial for Sheriff Plasse as deputies lined up waiting to pay their respects. This was prior to the last call over the radio during the procession.
The 10-42 call signaling the “end of watch” for Sheriff John Plasse. This took place outside the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department.
Thompson spoke on her own memories of her first solo interview with Sheriff Plasse. “He was a class act, and had a contagious smile, and definitely made me feel very comfortable.”
Julia Prickett went live at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Brown Avenue where the Terre Haute Fire Department had hung a Garrison Flag to honor the late Sheriff. Members of the community came to line up to show respect for the loss of a member of Vigo County.
