TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Hundreds of families lined up outside Verizon today to take part in a backpack giveaway.
Round Room, LLC is based in Fishers, Indiana but has made a big impact in the Terre Haute community. Sunday, for the 12th year, they gave out $3 million worth of backpacks. TCC Gives Program Director says this is to help alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with kids going back to school.
“I just think back to school time can kind of be a little bit stressful, especially for parents. There is a huge expense for that, so even just a backpack, which is going to get them through the whole year, is something I think people really appreciate.”

This year, they surprised one student as a golden ruler winner. A sixth grader received $100 for school supplies, as well as a $1,000 Amazon wish list buyout for his school. He says this money will be a huge help to his family.
“It is definitely going to help out my family a lot. We didn’t really have that much money to give me supplies to begin with, so it is going to really help us.”

Despite the rain, hundreds of kids will have a new backpack just in time for school.
