VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute woman is facing two charges of level 3 felony rape after police said she confessed to the crime when they responded to her home.
According to court records, Sylvia Evinger, 23, of Terre Haute faces two counts of rape as well as one misdemeanor charge of domestic battery.
A probable cause affidavit filed in the case shows that Indiana State Police responded to a home in the 8700 block of Wabash Avenue on July 16 for a domestic disturbance call.
A trooper reported that when he arrived on scene, Evinger approached him crying and began asking him to take her to jail. The woman admitted she had been drinking heavily that day, but also reportedly offered up that she had hit her wife following an argument.
Evinger went on to tell police that she had raped the victim several months before. The victim told police the rape occurred on March 11 of this year.
“Sylvia stated that they never set up the incident, and that she knew [victim] wasn’t okay with it while it was ongoing,” The PCA reads.
Evinger was then handcuffed and taken to the Vigo County Jail.
Evinger appeared in Vigo County Superior Court 6 on Monday for an initial hearing. Court records show that a second hearing has been scheduled for August 5. Jail records show Evinger remains in custody as of Monday with a bond of $10,000 with 10% allowed.
