FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — 2nd Update: As of 12:20 p.m. Sgt. Matt Ames with Indiana State Police said the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the state line have been reopened to traffic.
1st Update: Officials on site of the planned closure of I-70 westbound are now estimating that closure will take approximately one hour. The tree removal is larger than initially thought.
Original: As cleanup and restoration efforts are underway following severe weather hitting the area, officials announced that westbound lanes of Interstate 70 will be shut down.
According to Indiana State Police, the closure will begin at 10 a.m. (EDT) and occur in the westbound lanes of I-70 right at the state line.
The lane closures will allow for tree removal efforts to continue. However, ISP Sgt. Matt Ames said the closure is expected to only last approximately 10 minutes.
Sgt. Ames asks drivers to be patient, or find an alternative route as INDOT crews work to remove the tree.
