SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Brown Baggers will move into a bigger location in Sullivan.
Expansion is coming for the Brown Baggers. They have been helping supply food to children in the area for over a decade. Project director Kay Brewer says it will help kids with much more than just food.
“Maybe help get them into a safe place where they can come in and have a healthy snack, tutoring, or help them get their homework done and then help them with the Play 60 initiative,” Brewer said. “Get them involved in physical sports and activities versus sitting on the couch.”
The Sullivan Odd Fellows Lodge 147 has been in possession of the building since 2008. Members like David Brown helped organize the donation after they felt that it would be put to good use for the community.
“It’s centralized right here in the middle of town, plenty of room,” Brown said. “There’s a kitchen, lots of space to do whatever they are wanting to do. She’s talking about some classes for the kids and different various activities. It’s great.”
The Brown Baggers currently feed over 250 children each week. Now, the community turns an empty building into the gift that keeps on giving.
