TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A new exhibit at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum is giving children the opportunity to see some very important critters up close.
The exhibit is called Bees, Butterflies and Blooms. It is all about pollinators and the vital role they play in our environment.
Museum attendees can see live butterflies and a live bee hive. There is also an augmented reality sandbox children can play in that features changing landscapes.
Director of Operations Jamie McDowell shared what children are enjoying the most about the new exhibit.
“They totally love the live stuff. They love the opportunity to see see the butterflies. Actually we’ve had a few caterpillars and pupae turn into butterflies, which was really neat. They love the bees. They love the sandbox and the opportunity just to tinker with anything they can get their hands on,” said McDowell.
He said the exhibit will be open through April of 2025.
The museum will also hold an event on June 22 called Pollinator Palooza, which will feature even more information about pollinators including demonstrations by local beekeepers. You can learn more about the event here.
