TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Police Department is touting the success of their K-9 officers following two arrests made on Monday.
According to THPD, the first arrest occurred near the intersection of N 3rd Street (U.S. 41) and Peyton Road after a traffic stop. K-9 Vader gave positive indication of narcotics leading to a search of the vehicle. Police reported seizing an entire pound of cocaine following their search. The driver, Elexei Sanchez-Martinez, 41, of Kalamazoo, Michigan was taken into custody for charges of dealing cocaine.
Court records show that a Vigo County Judge ordered Sanchez-Martinez to be held on a $35,000 bond with no 10% and no professional bond allowed.
A second arrest involving K-9 Kick took place later that same day after police were sent to the area of Thompson Street and Margaret Avenue. Police had received a report that a wanted man, John North, 55, of Terre Haute, was in that location. When police arrived they found North, however he ran away and hid from them. K-9 Kick was able to find him in the fender well of a tractor nearby.
Police said North was arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail on charges of resisting law enforcement, false informing, and warrants for meth-related charges.
