TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Community members joined the Terre Haute Police Department in the Murph Challenge on Memorial Day.
The Murph Challenge is an event named in memory of fallen Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy. He received a Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during Operation Red Wings in 2005 in Afghanistan.
To remember those who have served our country, Terre Haute Police invited people to Memorial Stadium for the Murph Challenge, which consists of a one mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups and 300 air squats. The event concludes with another one mile run.
Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun was among the community members who took part in the event on Monday.
“Really good turnout. Good turnout from the community members as well,” said Mayor Sakbun. “It just shows how much we value those who serve our nation.”
Terre Haute Police say many of their officers have done this challenge before and the department wanted to involve the community this year.
